Anna Kohen, DDS

Honorary Member

Dr. Anna Kohen, DDS, is an Honorary Member of AAMS and was born in Vlora, Albania after WWII from a survivor Albanian Jewish family. 

She is the current president of the Albanian American Women Organization (AAWO) and is actively involved in humanitarian (medical and dental) programs of the Albanian community either in US or from the Albanian territories of Balkan Peninsula. Her family left Albania and settled in Greece after year 1960 and in 1970 Dr. Kohen graduated from Ethnikon and Kapodistriakon University of Athens Dental School. Shortly after her family migrated in the USA and Dr. Kohen converted her dental degree in 1976 at the New York University Dental School and was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Restorative Dentistry in the same institution for one decade.

Dr. Kohen practiced general dentistry in her private clinic in New York City from the mid 1980s through 2012. In 1990, she helped ten Jewish-Albanian families move to the United States and continues to help out today. Alfred Moisiu, the former President of the Albania, presented Dr. Kohen with the medal “For special civil merits: For valuable contribution helping the Albanians during the Kosovar humanitarian crisis: For precious aid given to the new Albanian immigrants in the United States”. In year 2006, Dr. Kohen was also made “Honored Citizen of the City of Vlora” for contributing to the wellbeing of its residents.
